Course modules

What is International Business Studies like?

International Business Studies offers a wide range of business-related modules. In addition to one mandatory module, you can compose a set of elective modules that match your interests and ambitions.

Semester structure

Each semester consists of two blocks. Some modules run throughout the entire semester and are indicated as Block 1 and 2 or Block 3 and 4. Other modules take place in only one block.

When selecting your modules, make sure to balance your study load evenly across both blocks.

Mandatory module: International Business Marketing Project

Credits: 5 ECTS
Block: 1 and 2 or 3 and 4

During this semester, you will work on a real international business case focused on market research and marketing advice. After a briefing from a client, such as a company or institution, you and your team will work on the assignment throughout the semester. Previous clients have included Slow Food, Fairphone and Ecovillages.

An experienced lecturer from Windesheim will guide your team and monitor your progress.

What you will do

Together, you will:

  • analyze the client’s current situation;
  • write a Business Market Research Report with research-based recommendations;
  • develop a realistic marketing plan.

At the end of the semester, you will present and defend your work to a jury of lecturers and client representatives.

Working in an international setting

Working under time pressure in an international team will highlight intercultural differences. This requires flexibility in dealing with differences in language skills, knowledge and cultural backgrounds.

In addition to regular project meetings, you will receive training in professional skills such as telephone communication, presenting in English and reporting.

Elective modules

For timetable efficiency, some modules are scheduled at the same time and therefore cannot be taken in combination. The following modules overlap:

- Global Trends & Issues and Digital Marketing
- International Business Management and Online Market Research
- Family Business and Creative & Critical Thinking
