    Research project (ongoing) - The purpose of this study by the research group of so-called DENK! classes is to realize effective training of reading comprehension. DENK! is a method to develop reading comprehension used from primary school group 5 onwards. The DENK! method uses long-term themes related to teaching of non-language subjects.

  2. Tpack and Blogs 15 April 2016

    Research project (ongoing) - Research to find out how blogs can be usefully and effectively integrated into literature teaching in the Teacher Education programmes and in secondary education. We presented our first findings at the SITE 2016 Conference in Savannah, Georgia, confirming a positive impact on students’ reading motivation and TPACK skills, but demonstrating also that further design improvements are still possible.

  3. LIST 15 April 2016

    Research project (ongoing) - The purpose of this study is to improve reading results in primary schools. The Reading Intervention project for Schools with a Total Approach (Dutch acronym: LIST) is an integral school improvement project aimed at improving reading results. This approach means that activities are undertaken at the school, teacher as well as pupil level. The first schools started in the 2008 – 2009 school year.

  4. Blog on Literacy and School Success 24 March 2016

    Research project (ongoing) - To translate research on language and reading into teaching practice, a blog was started as part of this research project which discusses practical dilemmas and scientific dilemmas relating to language and reading, with a view to generating a knowledge base and initiating discussion and changes in language and reading programmes.

  5. Literature and Identity Development 24 March 2016

    Research project (ongoing) - Our research concerns the impact children’s and young adult literature has on pupils’ personal development and the way they function in a diverse society. The first subproject (completed in 2011) focused on views on literature held at Protestant-Christian primary schools. The second (ongoing) subproject focuses on the life stories of students in entrance programmes.

  6. Writing and Spelling in higher professional education (HBO) 24 March 2016

    Research project (ongoing) - The purpose of this research project in its first phase (2015 – 2016) is to develop a university-wide module, based on the wishes of university lecturers, which can be used by students and lecturers alike to support the writing process and its supervision. The second phase (2017 – 2018) will investigate the use made of this module at Windesheim.

  7. Designing a Spelling Intervention for Use in Primary Education 23 March 2016

    Research project (completed) - The purpose of this research project was to design a workable and effective spelling intervention for groups of primary-school-age children with D or E scores in test dictations. In the first phase of this study the design was tested in primary school practice with thirteen pupils from two different schools and two supervisors.

  8. Free Reading in Senior Secondary Vocational Education (MBO) 09 November 2015

    Research project (completed) - The purpose of this research project was to investigate by means of design-based research how free reading can be further developed and implemented in senior secondary vocational education (MBO). Free reading in this context refers to pupils at set times reading texts of their own choice with proper motivation, thereby increasing their literacy and working on their personal development.
