Anneke Smits takes on the position of associate professor at the research group Educational Innovation and ICT. Together with her colleague Erna van Koeven she also forms the research group Literacy and Language Development and the related learning circle Literacy and School Success. In the late nineties she began to research how certain software could help improve writing and reading abilities. She is currently closely involved in investigating national intervention programs for reading, such as LIST and DENK! (THINK). She obtained her doctorate in 2012 on the topic Design and implementation of the Master Special Educational Needs through e-learning. Since then she has conducted research on the cutting edge of teaching methodology and ICT. She is also involved in a study of spelling interventions, and researches the use of multimedia blogs in literature. Anneke Smits studied speech therapy at the Catholic Flemish College (now Thomas More College) in Antwerp. She obtained her PhD at the University of Twente in 2012.

Erna van Koeven is a teacher and researcher at Windesheim. Erna van Koeven qualified as a school teacher, after which she studied Dutch language and literature at the Vrije Universtiteit Amsterdam. She obtained her doctorate from the same university in 2011 on a study about literature views in primary schools with a Protestant character.
Since then she has completed several studies on the subject of language and literacy pedagogy. Erna van Koeven is responsible for various research projects and several publications with a focus on literature concepts in primary education, reading in vocational colleges and the role of children's literature within schools.
