Dr. Martijn Willemse is associate professor of applied educational sciences in the research group of Teachers and Teacher Educators in Inclusive Learning Environments. He is also vice-president of the association for teacher educators Netherlands (Velon) and chair of the European Association for Practice-based Research In Learning and professional development (EAPRIL).

Research focus

Martijn Willemse focuses mainly on the professional development of (teacher) educators and other professionals in various contexts, for instance for citizenship education, collaboration with parents, SWPBS, or conducting practice-based research. In addition, he is interested in methodology (especially that of practice-based research).

Education

Martijn Willemse studied Pedagogy and Educational Science at Leiden University and graduated in Educational Psychology and Pedagogics, specializing in educational learning problems. In 2006, he obtained his PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam with the thesis Preparing pre-service teachers for the moral work of teaching.

Research experience

At Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, he conducts joint research with (international) colleagues on designing inclusive higher education programmes, professional development of (teacher) educators, Implementing SWPBIS, Lesson Study, research on collaboration with parents, the moral work of teachers and other topics.
