Serious and applied games take advantage of the engaging qualities of games to develop players' knowledge, personal and social skills. Join the Game Studio programme and learn how to develop a serious game from scratch! We welcome students from different disciplines (such as IT, management, marketing and design). Together you will go through all the steps of the creation of a serious game. From selecting the concept to the design, development and implementation.
What's Game Studio like?
This programme allows you to develop knowledge, skills and competences which are useful in the development of (serious) games, but also in a broader context. Below you can read how this full-time bachelor's level programme of 30 ECTS credits is structured.

Game Studio project (24 ECTS credits)
You will spend 20 weeks working on a large project for an actual client. As part of a multidisciplinary team of 3 to 5 students, you will work on the project for 32 hours a week at school or at the client’s location. There will be coaching sessions, workshops contributing to your project and regular presentations in which you and your fellow students share your obtained knowledge and progress.
Your project
The semester can be seen as an internship at Windesheim's own game studio, 038Games. At 038Games(opens in new tab), students from different disciplines (such as IT, art, management or marketing) design and implement (serious) games for real customers. These people or organizations have a problem which they think could be solved using a game. It is up to you to come up with various concepts for this game and realize one of them to at least a working prototype. Besides this, you also learn how to write the outline of a validation plan and how you can pitch your game, as if you run an actual game-company.
Shape your own semester
In Game Studio, every project is different. You may, for example, create an escape room, mobile game or VR-experience. This means that the learning opportunities can vary as well. It is up to you how you choose to shape your semester. To help you with your project, a number of workshops can be attended. Some of them are obligatory (e.g. project management and planning), others are elective (such as scrum or game design). The workshops are not graded individually, but are aimed to contribute to the success of the specific projects.
Besides this, you will also select two Professional Skills (3 ECTS credits each) from our list of elective courses (such as Leadership, Financial Management and 7 Habits).

Elective modules
Complete your exchange semester or year by taking one or two cross-departmental modules. You will receive ECTS credits when you complete a module successfully.

Requirements and application
You are required to have two years of Bachelor’s study experience and English-language skills at B2 level. The exact entry requirements depend on the role you plan to fulfill. Learning Agreement
The Learning Agreement is a crucial document for the recognition of a study period abroad. It is an agreement between you, your university and Windesheim. When you decide to do an exchange programme at Windesheim, you have to create a Learning Agreement that includes the respective courses of the exchange programme.
