Data-driven innovation presents great economic and social value that transforms the way we work, learn, communicate and live our lives. Processes within organizations therefore need to adapt, just as marketing, production and sales. As a result, new policies on security, privacy and ethics are needed. During this programme, you will discover what needs to be done to keep a company competitive. You will learn how to align business and IT by using data from inside and outside the organization, obtaining advanced knowledge about project management and creating business solutions, while working on a project for an actual client.
What's Data-driven Innovation like?
The bachelor's level Data-driven Innovation exchange programme (full-time, worth 30 ECTS credits) combines theory with practice. Throughout the course, you will deal with the realization of business IT solutions for real clients while using data. Below you can read how the course is structured.

Project (24 ECTS credits)
You will work on a large project for 20 weeks. The project is done for an actual client or in a real-life setting. In a multidisciplinary team of 3 to 5 students, you will work on the project for 32 hours every week (Tuesday to Friday) at school or at the client’s location. There will be coaching sessions and workshops contributing to your project. Besides that, you will regularly attend sessions in which you and your classmates can share your newly obtained expertise. This means that you will all learn from each other’s experiences.
Shape your own semester
In Data-driven Innovation, every project is different, which means that the learning opportunities can vary as well. It is up to you how you choose to shape your semester. To help you with your projects, a number of workshops can be attended. Some of them are mandatory (e.g. project management, consultancy, interviewing), others are elective (scrum, game design, data warehousing, data mining, etc.). The workshops are not graded individually, but are aimed to contribute to the success of the specific projects.
Examples of projects
All projects are IT-related. Some examples are:
- Organizing and setting up a data lab
- Forecasting production, based on data of the past
- Machine learning
- Business Process Redesign, data-driven
- Integration of several systems and applications
- Using data to predict the effect of climatological issues
- Formulating a(n) (renewed) IT-strategy and policy
- Dealing with effects of GDPR for the organization
- IT-architecture or application management

Elective modules
Complete your exchange semester or year by taking one or two cross-departmental modules. You will receive ECTS credits when you complete a module successfully.

Requirements and application
You are required to have two years of Bachelor’s study experience, basic IT knowledge and English-language skills at B2 level.

Learning Agreement
The Learning Agreement is a crucial document for the recognition of a study period abroad. It is an agreement between you, your university and Windesheim. When you decide to do an exchange programme at Windesheim, you have to create a Learning Agreement that includes the respective courses of the exchange programme.
