Join Circular Housing and learn to design houses that generate more value, in terms of energy and materials, than it costs to build them. You will work on a circular design for a real housing corporation. And who knows… perhaps they will actually implement your idea!

What's Circular Housing like?
The Circular Housing exchange programme combines theory with practice. You will immediately collaborate with stakeholders from the field. Below you can read how this full-time bachelor's level programme of 15 ECTS credits is structured. The programme will be taught in teaching block 2 of our autumn semester (15 November - 31 January).

Kick-off Circular Housing (1 ECTS credit)
Get to know your fellow students during a welcome party and get an overview of the upcoming projects and courses. This module introduces you to the main topics in circular housing.

Project Circular Housing (6 ECTS credits)
You will work in a multidisciplinary team of international students on a circular housing design. Your client is housing corporation Delta Wonen. Delta Wonen plays a key role in building affordable housing in the city of Zwolle. Their purpose is to construct a circular city district in the residential area Nomad City. Your task is to come up with concepts and ideas for circular housing. Be aware that your ideas may be implemented in the actual plans!
This studio project is at the heart of this programme. It is supported by complementary courses in which you will develop your creative and technical skills and knowledge on circular building and housing.

Lectures and excursions (3 ECTS credits)
In this course you will gain knowledge for your studio project by attending presentations of keynote speakers on circular building and housing concepts. This includes topics such as circular construction and installation principles, the use of circular and biodegradable building materials, shadow costs and residual value.
You will visit interesting projects and organizations during excursions in the Netherlands and possibly abroad. You will participate in organizing and preparing these excursions. -
Engineering Circular Housing (3 ECTS credits)
This course provides more detailed knowledge on sustainable and circular materials, constructions and MEP-equipment. You will find out what selection criteria are and how to apply them in a building according to the regulations.
As an engineer, you will need to develop buildings with circular aspects. One of the assignments is therefore to create reusable construction. -
Elective modules
Complete your exchange semester or year by taking one or two cross-departmental modules. You will receive ECTS credits when you complete a module successfully.

Requirements and application
You are required to have two years of Bachelor’s study experience in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Engineering or a similar course, and English-language skills at B2 level.

Learning Agreement
The Learning Agreement is a crucial document for the recognition of a study period abroad. It is an agreement between you, your university and Windesheim.
